About Us
about rachel
a contemporary artist exploring the tension between strength and softness through expressive, movement-driven, modern work.
art has the power to speak directly to the soul, capturing emotion through colour and form. it is always my goal to sneak in as much colour as i can - even in places where people don’t believe it exists.
i attended Grant MacEwan University to study Fine Art and played on the women’s basketball team, i also attended Medicine Hat College where i also played basketball and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communications Degree. i have stories i cant wait to share about both of these experiences of being an art student and athlete, my new series crossover is going to touch on many topics pertaining to these experiences.
since graduating post secondary, i have worked in capital, oil and gas and graphic design, all the while pursuing art on the side. i also got married and had four beautiful babies, who are now all busy in school and their own athletic pursuits.
in 2020, i had a moment to make art my full time job. i have explored the possibility of many mediums, and always come back to painting, where i feel most able to express myself.
i am excited to share with you the path my art and athletics have taken me on, please follow me on instagram @rachelnellcreative

crossover [chaos x discipline]
crossover exists in the tension between strength + softness.
where opposing forces don't compete, but create.
through gesture and movement, each work captures the balance required to perform, hold composure, and to remain present under pressure.
control gives way to instinct.
pressure becomes pressence.
built in tension, held in balance
she holds both
strength x softness
chaos x discipline
not choosing one
but carrying all of it
composed under pressure
unfolding in motion
present in the tension
this is where she lives
this is crossover
